This session introduces FAIR2 Data Chats as a community-participatory research tool to advance Public Interest Technology in data science. The FAIR2 framework expands on the established FAIR data principles by embedding historical and community knowledge throughout the data analytic process to address discrimination bias. We illustrate the use of FAIR2 Data Chats in two applications of integrated data analytics in the area of homelessness.

This session explores United Way’s latest ALICE data to reveal hidden financial hardship and its impact by race, age, and geography. Learn how civic data like ALICE informs equitable policy, nonprofit strategy, and funding—empowering communities to act.
This session will explore the demographic categories common in data collection as well as the impacts of limiting options or not collecting certain categories. For instance, Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) demographics and Race/Ethnicity are not always representative of the full spectrum of options. Do people see themselves in the data researchers collect? What does it mean for how we identify communities?
Our session will discuss/demonstrate the strategy and execution of an enterprise data warehouse focusing on the unification and analysis of data across a large park system. Areas of focus: - Data ingestion methods, data models and technologies used to build the data warehouse - Custom visualizations and interactive reporting to assist in fundraising efforts and data driven decisions - Emerging technologies to measure and augment park and trail visitation data (Lorawan and satellite technologies)
